Facebook Connect is this cool feature that allows you to use your Facebook account to login and interact on all sites within the Mixr network. To put that in another way, all Mixr sites are connected via a common login and now you can use your Facebook account as that login. You’ll be able to comment, interact, gain EXP, invite your Facebook friends, and have your activities posted to your Facebook feed.

Keep in mind that this is a complex and deep integration of Facebook and the Mixr system. There might bugs every now and then so consider this Facebook integration to be in a beta stage. If you do find bugs, just fill out our contact form with as much detail as possible.

Instructions on how to connect your Facebook account to a Mixr website after the jump:

New Users

Click on the Facebook Connect icon (which should be on the right hand column of most of our sites). A window will popup asking you to login to Facebook if you haven’t already.

If you are logged in, you just need to click ”Connect” to confirm.

You will then be redirected to another page that will ask you to select a username that will serve as your username for all Mixr sites.

You can select to use your Facebook photo for your avatar or upload your own via Mixr’s profile system. Either way is fine with us but Facebook uses different sizes for their avatar photos than us so in many areas you’ll only see the blank Facebook icon for your avatar. Click on “Finish” and that’s it, your Facebook account is now connected to one of our sites. The login bar in the top right corner should say ”Logged in via Facebook”.

In order to use your Facebook Connected account on our other sites, you will need to repeat the Connect process on each of them as well. Yea that’s kinda annoying but there are many reasons for why that is. BUT! It’s much easier the second time around since you are an existing user now.

Existing Users

If you already have a Mixr Media account or a Facebook Connected Mixr Media account, then you should login with your Mixr account or be logged into Facebook. Then, just click the Facebook Connect icon and click “Connect” when the dialouge pops up. The page should reload and you should be logged in with your Facebook account. That’s it! (note: if you’re still not logged in, try reloading one more time.)

For existing Mixr users that forgot to login first, that’s ok. You can just click “Have a MixrMedia account already?” link highlighted in blue. A window will pop up asking for the username and password. Enter that, click “Sign in” and the page will reload and your Mixr account will automagically be linked to your Facebook account.

Settings

You can change your Facebook settings anytime, on any of our sites, via your member profile area. The settings are in Account -> Facebook Settings.

Logging Out

Since Facebook replaces Mixr as the authentication system and because we use a common login for all our sites, logging out of your Facebook Connected account will log you out of ALL Mixr websites in addition to Facebook.

Permissions

In order for your comments to appear on your Facebook wall, you must grant us the permission to do so. Just check the “Post comment to my Facebook profile” box and a dialogue window will pop up.

Click “Allow Publishing” and both Facebook and the Mixr site you are on will remember the settings.

Again because of the way Facebook is setup, you will have to grant this permission on all Mixr sites that you visit. However, you only need to do this once per site.

You can control these permissions, revoke and grant them, anytime in the Facebook Settings area which can be accessed by going to My Home -> Account -> Facebook Settings.

Disconnecting

Anytime you want to disconnect your Facebook account from one of our sites, just go to My Home -> Account -> Facebook Settings -> Disconnect. If you did not have a prior Mixr account and you disconnect from Facebook, this will deactive your Mixr account, across our entire network. If you do have a prior Mixr account, then you just log in like you have in the past with your Mixr login.

Again, this is a new and in beta. Use our contact form if you find bugs or need support.
