While other sites may have loads of information, Social News is designed to separate the “rice from the husk”. We believe that a collection of thousands of stories, links, photos, videos and other content will only be as good as the system in place to find what you’re looking for.

Social Filtering

Not every item submitted is worthy of Frontpage attention. The collective activity of users, such as starring a story or commenting on a photo, helps to determine its overall worthiness. Items that are Frontpage material gets the celebrity treatment while items that aren’t simply fades away into Google or something.

Triple Taxonomy

Whenever you submit items, you are asked for both a category and relevant tags. This allows us to combine the advantages of both and helps to offset the disadvantages of each. Categories are broad so that more items can fit into them, but tags add that fine-grain filtering. Items are also separated by type, whether it’s a news story, photo, video, or audio link. Searches can be accomplished using any of them or all of them.

Personal Assistant

hat self-respecting celebrity doesn’t have his or her own personal assistant? We acknowledge how little time stars have to even do their own online search. So every user gets five personal assistants. You tell them what to look for, and they find it for you. The results of their search are promptly displayed on the homepage.

Item Browser

The simplest way to find what you’re looking for is with the item browser. There is one for the Frontpage and Backpage. Results here are ordered by highest level levels of activity. There’s also a handy filtering system where you can more finely tune what you’re browsing for. As an added help, filtering on the Frontpage also returns a handful of Backpage matches.

Favorites

Lastly, if you find something you super really like, just “heart it” by clicking on the red heart next to each item. This will add it to your list of favorites which you can quickly scan through anytime.
